Reflection

This class has become my favorite this semester. I was blessed with a professor who passionately and enthusiastically loves what she taught. That passion and love resonated within me and most of my other peers. Being in a class where the students and professor work equally hard is something that is not easy to find. Therefore , I am immensely grateful for that. I have also made friends that I will be able to keep once this class is over.

This English 102 has also refined the way I behave and think. I at all times make sure to keep my mind active in all situation. I have come to the realization that that is the only true way to keep my mind ripe. This class has also developed my writing and speaking skills and created a deeper understanding on who I am as a person.

Response #3 Feminism

The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman has been one of my favorite and most interesting stories of the semester. She tackles feminism during a time where is was taboo to believe a woman could be educated and strong. This time was filled with social realism. Individuals began realizing things in  a new way. Writers began to write about war, political and social change as they saw it.  Perkins-Gilman generated one of the first waves of feminism and attempted to move the society to a more egalitarian society. In her book she writes about the lives in which women were actually living during the time. Which is essentially what made this work even more profound. She wrote about a community of people that were not being represented. She was able to give them a voice finally.

Response #1 Tragic Heros

In the beginning of the semester one of the lectures that I pondered most deeply about in my own personal life outside the classroom was on February 2nd, 2017, when we spoke about the characteristics of a tragic hero. A tragic hero is one who is doomed to make a serious error, met with tragedy, faces and accepts death with honor, and responsible for their own fate. We spoke about how Antigone was a tragic hero for standing up for what she believed in. This lesson captured my attention because I do feel parts of my life parallel that of a tragic hero. Although, I would hope none of which would lead to my death. There are aspects in which any of my habits or doings could in some fashion lead to my downfall. I live a life full of admiration for doing what is right, however, life being so fickle and where anything is possible it makes me feel like a tragic hero. Any of my beiefs or actions at any moment could alter and change my life forever

Response #2 The Blanch Is In Us

After reading "A Streetcar Named Desire" by Tennessee Williams for a second time, I continue to identify with Blanche. Most of this play is in effect of the situations that she has been subjected to, and how they have altered her reality. Blanche in her lifetime had been placed in many unfavorable situations. Such as, walking in on her childhood sweetheart fornicating with another man and then committing suicide, losing her sister and family, losing her home, being raped and essentially losing herself. I identify with Blanche because although at some points she behaves with lunacy, this is only because she has faced so much adversity she has lost who she is. In order for her to cope with this she has created her own reality and is happy remaining in the facade. I also have faced intense adversity within my 19 years of living that has made me able to empathize with Blanche. When life knocks you down sometimes its hard to get back up, therefore you find any way to cope that can get you through the days.
